Hi everyone, today I want to cover most of the tools that will be used when starting with digital marketing.

The reason I named this article “Fundamental of digital marketing tools” is because you will surely come across these tools when starting as a digital marketer.

However, this will just contain an overview of the tools and I will not dive deeply into the topics.

Let’s get started then, shall we?

Social Media Management

Social Media marketing is one of the key aspects of digital marketing. With the shift of a huge number of users to social media, online marketing opportunities have increased. The targeting of the audience is easier with pages and groups for a different niche on Facebook and similar other platforms. The possibilities of influencer marketing have also increased with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Some tools you can use for social media management and promotion are Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, etc.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is the heart of digital marketing and one of the easiest ways to outreach to your potential clients. The tools used for email marketing fall under the fundamentals of digital marketing tools because email marketing has been used by many businesses to nurture their leads and potential clients for a long time. Some tools you can use for email marketing are Hubspot, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Aweber, etc.

Search Engine Marketing and display advertising

With the rise in the use of search engines and powerful platforms like Google, search engine marketing tools are considered one of the important players for digital marketing. Google Ad Manager is one of those tools that help businesses advertise their products and services worldwide. This kind of marketing is done based on keywords searched and the niche of the website. The advertisements are shown based on the bid done by the advertiser. You can also use Bing ads for showing ads on bing search engine.

Search Engine Optimization

While search engine marketing helps the businesses reach potential customers who are searching for similar kinds of services, search engine optimizations also do the same but without being paid for impressions and clicks. SEO is the organic way to make your way through the top pages of Google and other search engines. However, there are more steps to go through while doing search engine optimization. The first step is to research the keywords, look for your competitors providing similar products and services, find good ranking websites that can give you backlinks, optimize your content to be easily understood by search engines. Some of the tools you can use for Search engine optimization are Ubersuggest, Google Keyword Planner, MOZ PRO, Yoast SEO, Rank Math Plugin, Similar Web, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs backlink checker, keyword tool, etc. There is much more to SEO and we might need a different article to explain just about its fundamentals because it depends upon many factors. The tools I have mentioned above not only help you with SEO but also looking at page insights. Most tools for SEO are from google and you can sync them with each other to get better results.

Content Development

As they say content is the king, if you are thinking of starting with digital marketing you need to make a plan for content development. First of all, you need to make a strategic goal and then start with the content development. It might be video content, design-related content, or anything with text. Most of the time these things come together to make better content. There are times when content development is one of the toughest tasks because you have to be creative and unique.

Copying other’s contents to post it as yours also is a bad practice and might get you into trouble.

If you are planning to design something and tell your stories through graphical contents, you might use tools like photoshop, illustrator, gimp, etc. But if you want it to be an easier process you can also Canva. Canva provides you with options to create designs for each and every platform. You can use stock images to design and add the required information. Though it has many limitations compared to other design platforms and software, it is possible to do a decent job needed with the help of Canva. You can use platforms like Google Trends, buzz sumo, Hubspot’s Blog Topic Generator, Grammarly, duplichecker, etc to help with content development.

As a bonus, I want to give some tips for people starting with the digital marketing tools.

When you start with digital marketing please make sure to keep these three things in your mind. First, you need to focus on ROI. If something is not working out, mostly you need to change your strategy. Second, you need to figure out the tried and tested tools from different industry professionals. This will help with your time management and you can always experiment with new tools to compare with the results. The third is you need to remember to do A/B testing. Suppose if you are advertising in Google or Facebook, try running different ads to figure out which settings are performing better so that you can continue with one of them.
